It can be noted that the Laboratory of Solid Mechanics and its predecessors have been central in the Estonian mechanics’ scene since the 1960s with the Chairman of the Estonian National Mechanics’ Committee often from the laboratory. Currently, both the chairman (Andrus Salupere) and secretary (Tanel Peets) of the Estonian national mechanics’ committee are from the Laboratory of Solid Mechanics.
